What this site is

Loop & Ladder publishes original crochet patterns built around a simple premise: you came here to make something, so the materials, the gauge, and the stitch counts should be the first things you see. No life story before the pattern, no fifteen paragraphs of preamble, no padding written for a search engine.

Everything is organised by what you're making — amigurumi, blankets, garments, accessories, and the rest. Every pattern lists the real yarn and hook used, an honest yardage estimate, the gauge it was worked at, and a skill level that means the same thing across the site.

How patterns are tested

Nothing is published from a chart alone. A pattern reaches the site only after the whole thing has been crocheted from its own written instructions — the same words you'll follow — with ordinary yarn and a standard hook.

• Made before it's written. Stitch counts, yardage, and finished measurements come from the actual project, not a rounded estimate.
• Counts on every line. Patterns worked in the round carry a running stitch count so you can catch a mistake in the round it happens, not six rounds later.
• Failure points called out. Where a step is where things usually go wrong — closing a magic ring, joining without a jog, seaming an edge — the pattern says what to look for.
• Reviewed before it goes live. Every draft is read end to end and approved by a person before it is published. Nothing reaches the site automatically.

Editorial standards

• Original patterns only. The patterns and the writing around them are made here. We learn from the wider craft the way everyone does, but we do not copy or reword another designer's pattern, notes, or photographs.
• Our own photography. Every image is produced for that specific pattern. We never use another maker's photo and never build an image from one.
• Corrections are welcome. If a pattern doesn't work, that is useful information. Tell us what happened and we'll re-make it and fix the page — corrections go into the pattern itself, not buried in a comment.
• No paid placements. Nothing on this site is included because someone paid for it to be. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed on the page it affects and on the disclosure page.

A note on stitch terms

Patterns here use US crochet terminology (single crochet, double crochet, and so on) unless a pattern says otherwise, and every pattern expands its abbreviations at the top. If you crochet in UK terms, the conversion is one step off throughout — a US single crochet is a UK double crochet — and the hook & yarn converter covers the sizing side.

Why there’s no byline

Patterns here are published under the Loop & Ladder name rather than an individual's. The standards above apply to every post regardless of who worked on it, and we would rather be held to a consistent process than to a personality. Every pattern is still read and approved by a person before publication.
